Mr. Gorokhov earns nidan black belts

Yuri Gorokhov was tested extensively on Sunday, October 9th and earned his second degree black belt. His performance radiated energy and focus along with a great understanding of the movements and how to apply them. The private testing was limited to the examining board of ten current nidans and above. Master Devine commented this was a unique performance of athleticism and power that seldom is... More

Camp a great success!

Summer camps were another great success this year, the 33rd annual summer camp. The shoguns or seniors went to Mt. Laguna for four days of training, excellent food, and extensive training. Mr. Platt was awarded nikkyu (2nd levelt) of brown belt, and Mr. Rousseau earned his first brown belt. There were some great song and dance routines presented during the skits as entertainment, and the wolf... More

These black belts are situated in front of the black belt banners for that dojo. Earning dan... More

Talking to your seniors directly

Responsibility when dealing with your Sempai (seniors) Black Belt Yuri Gorokhov writes about juniors needing to communicate  more directly with teachers and other seniors. I often observe students in the dojo; particularly younger students, who sometimes hide behind their parents when it comes to communicating with senior students and teachers. The PMA conduct code clearly states "to have... More

New Black belts inducted into PMA

A black belt ceremony was held on June 10th to induct the newest students to the rank of shodan-ho in the PMA. In a very formal ceremony, Rachel Brown, Robert Graff and William Shestowsky became the 'new kids on the block." Ms. Brown is also the youngest black belt ever promoted among the 81 who has so far received the rank. The suffix -ho in shodan-ho infers that for the next year the student is... More

New Black Belts promoted at Stars and Stripes

The annual Stars and Stripes went smoothly on June 4th. A highlight was the on floor promotion of three new black belts who were utterly suprised by the promotion. It also meant they had to shift gears and compete in the black belt divisions and not the brown belt events they were expecting. Master Devine called them out on the floor before the large audience at Coronado, and wished them luck in... More
